The Pre-NYE Party Pamper

Gemma Oliver | Sunday, December 30, 2012 | |

New Years Eve wouldn't be New Years Eve without a good celebration would it? We all know NYE is the ultimate yearly night out and that means more effort has to be made beauty-wise. I like to give myself a good ol' pampering the evening before NYE so I'm polished to perfection the next day, and if I'm honest the whole week after Christmas Day leading up to NYE is spent preening myself but for fear of boring you to death I thought I'd just share today's pampering antics with you instead of my week long pampering shenanigans.

It all starts off in the shower where after a little wash and a scrub with Soap & Glory products; namely the Rich & Foamous Body Wash and Pulp Friction Body Scrub which as per usual with Soap & Glory products smell divine, are moisturising and really get the job done, I massage the Naked Colour Protecting Shampoo (review here) into my hair, wash out and repeat the process before slathering on a hair mask and leaving it on for twenty or so minutes. I'm a bit of a hair mask addict and have at least eight in my haircare stash but today I decided to use my newest offering, L'Oreal's EverPure Colour Care Intense Mask. This sulphate free hair mask transforms my hair into super soft shiny locks and smells minty which is lovely and invigorating. It's then time to moisturise my body and as my dad's girlfriend bought me a set of Sanctuary body butters for Christmas I decided to give one of those a go. I used the original Sanctuary Body Butter and slathered it over my skin top to toe. I'm quite a big fan of Sanctuary if I'm honest and this body butter feels beautifully hydrating on the skin.

Now, picture this. I've done all of the steps previously mentioned, I've got a big cosy purple dressing gown on, my hair is up in a hair turban and I'm standing in front of my bathroom mirror. It's time to sort out this face!

I've been using a cream cleanser and just wiping it off with cotton pads recently and my skins been thanking me for it. For some reason I've just discovered that my super sensitive skin isn't a fan of muslin cloths or flannels so this cheapy Boots Botanics Ultra Calm Gentle Cleansing Cream does the job. It's by no means a luxury item but my skin absolutely loves it. I then follow it up with the Boots Botanics 100% Organic Rosewater Toning Spritz which I spray onto a cotton pad and wipe over my face to ensure my skin is super clean. Trilogy's Gentle Face Exfoliant is my next step to slough away any dead skin. I use a five pence piece size and buff it over dry skin and then wash off. Next up, a face mask! Or rather two face masks. Liz Earle's Deep Cleansing Mask to draw out impurities and clogged pores and then Kiehl's Algae Mask to hydrate and soften my skin, both of which are smoothed onto my skin using Anna's mess free foundation brush idea and left on for ten minutes. We're coming to the end of my facial pamper now and it wouldn't be a good old pamper without a face oil. I've talked about Trilogy's Rosehip Oil constantly on GMJ which is one of my two favourite face oils, the other being Liz Earle's SuperSkin Concentrate which I used today. I love this face oil because it contains a number of wonderful ingredients which leave my skin literally glowing and it smells divine. I've been using the Antipodes Rejoice Light Facial Cream for my moisturiser for a week or so and I couldn't give it enough praises, I've really seen an improvement in my skin since using it and it gives my skin just the right amount of moisture which absorbs into the skin almost instantly. Last but not least, eye cream is one of those products which I always used to forget about until a year ago and now I use it religiously. I love using Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avacado, an intensely rich moisturising eye cream which I tap a pea sized amount of around my eyes to hydrate, soothe and (hopefully) prevent premature ageing.

Smooth baby soft skin, hello there!

Then a couple of hours later, which just so happens to be after I've finished writing this post, I'll apply more moisturiser to the dry areas of my body (elbows, knees, ankles and err...that bit of skin next to my armpit and shoulders) and smooth on my fake tan of choice, something which I haven't quite decided on yet today. I'll then paint my nails, pick out a wonderful NYE outfit and snuggle up in front of the TV with a hot chocolate ready for a hectic but fun-filled day tomorrow.

Please note: When writing this post I was in the transition from using non-natural products to natural/organic products. Therefore I no longer use any of these products except those by Antipodes, Boots Botanics, Naked and Liz Earle as these are if not all, then mostly natural brands.
